Soft sediment coring is performed using Benthic Geotech's patented piston tube sampling system. This system exploits ambient hydrostatic pressures to overcome friction as sediment enters the barrel. |
|
|||
|
Coring
is precise and high quality, as penetration is immediately arrested once
frictional forces overcome the hydraulic tether inhibiting further sediment
entering the core barrel.

|
Samples
are taken in 2.75m long runs.

A
proprietary iris type catcher system is used to retain the complete soil
sample during withdrawal from the hole & subsequent storage on the
magazine.

All
recovered core is retained in transparent plastic liners, which are end
capped, waxed and stored in vibration-proof storage boxes once the PROD
is recovered to the vessel.

High quality clay samples can be recovered using
57mm diameter stainless steel thin-walled sampling tubes. Maximum sample length is 700mm. |
